What is "Drive to Stay Alive"?

 Drive to Stay Alive Inc. is a community based non-profit organization that promotes safe driving skills through its annual behind the wheel intensive driving program.  This program instructs teens ages 16-18 in both classroom and vehicle settings. Our primary goal is to help reduce the number of accidents involving teen drivers by teaching them manuevers to avoid accidents and increase their confidence behind the wheel in intense situations.

The teen population has the highest fatality rate with regard to motor vehicle accidents and Drive to Stay Alive Inc. wants to equip each teen with skills that can help reduce motor vehicle crashes and, inevitably, save a life.

Drive to Stay Alive Inc. partners each year with local police & fire departments and ambulances services to help raise awareness in the community for such a vital cause.

Program Overview

The Drive to Stay Alive program is taught in two sections: a classroom discussion and behind the wheel training. The classroom discussion leads the teens in a conversation regarding seat belt use, anti-lock braking systems, cell phone use (both talking & texting) while driving, safe distances between cars while driving, avoidance of accidents, driving during inclimate weather conditions, information to gather if involved in a motor vehicle collision, as well as taking the opportunity to answer questions that the teens may have.

Where the fun comes in, and that part most teens can't wait to participate in, is the behind the wheel training the program offers.  The 2012 program has been completely redesigned with a total of 10 new road courses that will provide each teen with the most intense instruction possible. The courses involve braking and navigating J curves, swerving to avoid object during an S curve, slalom, skid & recovery, and texting while driving. Teens will also get to experience DUI simulators to reinforce the dangers of drinking and driving.

All of the participants will be accompanied in the car by a trained driving instructor.
